How the Pony club, British Horse Society and British Riding Clubs shaped my life with horses

How the Pony club, British Horse Society and British Riding Clubs shaped my life with horses
I loved mounted games even though it was clear my first pony Casper, did not. My childhood was filled with the joy and wonder of these majestic creatures, and I treasured every moment spent with my beloved ponies. Little did I know that this passion for ponies would shape not only my childhood but also my future.

As I grew older, my love for ponies only deepened, leading me to pursue a career as a riding instructor. I found joy in sharing my knowledge and passion for horses with others, and it was incredibly rewarding to see my students develop their own skills and love for riding. I completed my qualifications through The British Horse Society, up to stage 4 Intermediate Stable Manager and always followed their emphasis on proper education and care for horses. The lessons I conducted were always based around horse care and riding, and even though I no longer teach (another blog for another day) I strive to instil these values in my daughter. During these years of my life, I also served just short of 5 years as a British Horse Society Welfare advisor, dealing with everything from educating owners, abandoned horses and delivering events to raise awareness of our cause.

Now, as a parent, I am thrilled to see that my daughter shares my love for ponies and horse riding. From a young age, she showed a natural talent and passion for riding, and it was clear that this was more than just a passing phase for her. I have had the pleasure of watching her grow and develop her skills in our local BRC (British Riding Club), and it fills my heart with pride to see her excel in the sport, under saddle and on the ground.

The bond between my daughter and her ponies is truly special, and I am grateful to be able to witness the joy and connection they share. The British Horse Society's commitment to horse welfare and education is something that I hold dear, and I am proud to pass on these values to my daughter as she navigates the world of equestrian sports.

Watching my daughter enjoying horses is a dream come true for me. It fills me with a sense of nostalgia and happiness, as I see her carry on the passion that was ignited in me as a child. It is a beautiful full-circle moment, knowing that the love for ponies that I experienced as a child is now being passed down to the next generation.

In the midst of the excitement and challenges of the equestrian world, the bond between humans and horses remains a constant source of magic and wonder. As I continue to support my daughter in her journey as a competitive rider, I am grateful for the lessons learned from my own childhood ponies and the values instilled by the British Horse Society. The passion for ponies that has been a part of me from a young age now lives on through my daughter, and I couldn't be prouder to share this special connection with her.

The Pony club, The BHS and BRC have been fundamental is upholding standards in equestrian sports. They are places we can lean on in times of need, they educate and support in all things equestrian. I can say that without these establishments, I would not be here today enjoying the sport as much as I do!
